Creature Feature: Vampires

After reading 20 vampire books, rabid reader and reviewer Matt Redmon told us about his favorites. I was beyond delighted to see TEETH had made his top five list.

I loved everything about this book and the world that Owen has created. It’s the freshest take on the vampire myth that I’ve read, and it felt so real and so close to our current world. The characters are fantastic, and the writing is superb. I could gush about this one all day, but I will force myself to stop and say READ THIS DAMN BOOK!

Virginia Beach has long been a place that people associate with beaches, nightlife, and a retreat from the stressors of the world; where the sun can shine down on you and your cares are washed away briefly by the ocean waves.

On May 31, 2019 those waves went dark with the tragic shooting of 16 innocent people – 12 fatality; the latest in a long line of senseless shootings in the world. Turning a place known for relaxation – Dark.

This book is to honor those who lost their lives in this this tragedy. All proceeds will be donated to the Virginia Beach Tragedy Fund c/o United Way South Hampton Roads.

The anthology will be available until November 2020 at which point it will go out of print and the official charity for the victims will close.

25 Favorite Books Under 200 Pages

…and Not One Page More.

I was delighted to be included in this favorites list for WAITING OUT WINTER.

This novella was rich with well-developed characters. Instead of following this pandemic tragedy on a large scale, the author zeroes in on a family and the day to day struggles they face. It’s an emotional rollercoaster as the reader engages in the family’s victories and losses. My favorite aspect of this book was how realistic it was. It infiltrated my real life fears-especially when there was a huge, slow fly trapped in the car with me while I was driving. I rolled all the windows down and I was relieved when it finally found its way out!

Check out her thoughts on the other 24 books over here.

Among the Stacks

As part of The Gal in the Blue Mask’s Halloween Extravaganza, there was an interview.

I talked about my quirks, my fears, all kinds of random crazy things… Check it out to learn things about me you maybe didn’t know.

…and when you’re done, check out the rest of them. There are over 70 interviews just for the Halloween theme, then there are many  many more. Bookmark it. It’s a good place to have handy on those lunch breaks!

Signing Off | Buttercup of Doom 2.11

The end of a (short) era. The finale of the Buttercup of Doom podcast was taped live at Scares That Care charity weekend 5 because a bunch of lovely humans donated funds during the Horror Show with Brian Keene telethon and decreed it to be. And so it was.

We performed without a net—no notes, no plan—winging it with whomever showed up. It was a free-for-all Q&A, which included the famous “f*ck, marry, kill” question, pizza toppings, group sing-alongs, many other topics, insanity, giggles, and a reminder of rule number one: Don’t Be A Dick (oh, that should be my campaign slogan: Buttercup 2020)

Many many thanks to those who donated to make it happen, to those who attended the taping, and to those who have listened over the years. Not sure what kept your attention, but I’m humbled to have had it. Thank you, and good-night…

Available FREE (until Sept 1 only!!) on: PEN Project Entertainment Network • iTunes • I♥Radio  •  StitcherAndroidTune-In • Google Play Music • Overcast … and then POOF, gone. Unless you’re a patreon, then you can get access to these and anything new I may record. It’s only a buck. A single lonely dollar. $1.00 in the grand scheme of things. Go on then… be a patreon!
